Rhenus breaks ground at new Port Salford facility
Freight logistics giant Rhenus Logistics has confirmed the beginning of construction work on its new headquarters and warehouse facility at Port Salford, Manchester. Expected to be fully operational by the end of Q4 2017, the development will create up to ten new jobs.
With 13 sites located across the UK, Rhenus has enjoyed strong and sustainable growth, with the past year seeing a 10% increase in volumes. As a result of this, Rhenus is opting to relocate its headquarters from Trafford Park to Port Salford, which will see a 60,700 sq ft site built. The impressive facility will include 50,000 sq ft of logistics and warehousing space, 10,000 sq ft of offices, along with parking for 16 trailers.
David Williams, managing director at Rhenus UK, said: “We have been planning the expansion to Port Salford for around two years and I’m thrilled to confirm the opening of this significant new facility. The site is strategically located at the UK’s first tri-modal inland port facility which gives our customers access to some of the fastest and most efficient routes into and out of the UK.
“We’ve seen plans for the site come together quickly and construction work is moving along in line with the projected schedule. We think this investment in our facilities will not only allow Rhenus to extend its logistics solutions in the UK but help companies looking to export goods access a world-leading service from Rhenus and the surrounding development.”
Matthew Fitton, development director at PLP, said: “Rhenus Logistics is the second occupier to commit to Port Salford. The facility is quickly gathering momentum and establishing itself as a key national logistics hub which will ultimately be served by road, rail and water. This makes the site a unique proposition in the logistics market and gives companies across the supply chain the opportunity to move goods through alternative transportation solutions.”
Supplying complete logistics solutions in key business areas, Rhenus UK delivers a fully comprehensive service across land, air and ocean.
With 75 years of performance in services direct to overland markets and global destinations, Rhenus has a turnover in excess of £60m and employs 270 people across 13 strategically-placed locations throughout the UK and Ireland.
